Dear
Presidents, Club Public Relations Chairs and Rotarians of Zone 28,
I want to
make you aware of Polio Wake-Up
Across the Continent 2011. This is a campaign designed to create
awareness about the fact that Polio still exists and that Rotary is leading the
charge in eradicating this dreaded disease.
You and your clubs are
invited to participate in a special Polio Awareness Initiative covering the
Continent. The event will begin on World Polio Day, Monday October 24th 2011
and continue through the entire week.
Rotarians, Rotaractors
and Interactors and all ‘Family of Rotary’ are heartfully encouraged to take
leadership roles in this initiative. During that week, clubs in Canada and the
USA can do something/anything to raise awareness for Polio – this could be a
walk, run, proclamation, etc.
The level of
organization can differ from club to club….district to district. Some may just
encourage their members to get out for a walk on their own and record the
activity in number of kms or miles, another might organize a marathon or spin-a
thon………another might March from their Club to City Hall for a peaceful
demonstration. Maybe it’s a “Purple Pinkie Project”, Pennies for Polio or other
Polio Awareness activity that a club already practices.
Each club is invited to
participate in their own way and will be given a chance to brag about their
activities on a specially set-up Facebook Group page and be included in a You
Tube video to follow. Come share ideas and post your initiative images at

On this site you will also find sample news releases, draft
op-ed pieces that you can place in your local papers along with great ideas
from club across North America! I would like to encourage you to share this
invitation.
